Interpretation of Archaelogical Heritage of Guasca Town, Cundinamarca, Colombia

​​​Just 42 kilometers from the Capital of Colombia, Bogotá, is located the Guasca town, a territory full of  páramos, peaks, and lagoons where is holded a deep cultural significance for the ancient Muiscas, evident in legends such as "El Dorado" and rituals like the "Rite of Running the Earth." These sites were revered for spiritual pilgrimages and offerings, embodying ancestral reverence for nature. Today, archaeological discoveries—ceramic artifacts, gold, and rock art from pre-Hispanic settlements along Chipatá, Siecha, and Aves rivers—reveal insights into the past.

Enhanced interpretive capacities empower local tourism operators to offer enriching visitor experiences aligned with Guasca's cultural and natural heritage. The project aimed to protect the archaeological heritage of Guasca and strengthen cultural tourism experiences through narrative construction strategies hand in hand with local communities and scientific knowledge.

​​​​​The project employed a comprehensive methodology: initial workshops enhancing interpretive skills and Participatory Action Research (PAR) at key archaelogical sites. The strengthening of archaeological issues was led by Alvaro Botiva Contreras, one of the most important archaeologists in Colombia, achieving results such as interpretive materials—booklets, audiovisual productions, and scripts—that distill complex archaeological insights into accessible formats. These resources serve educational purposes to deepen understanding of Guasca's heritage and as promotional tools for responsible cultural and ecological tourism.
